CIT Utah Certification
Officers are required to demonstrate their skills through scenario based testing. Officers must also pass a State of Utah Crisis Intervention Team written exam. Successful completion will allow the officer to be certified by the State of Utah Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health as a CIT Officer.
The certification is valid for a period of two years. CIT Officers must attend four hours of continuing education for every two years to maintain their certification. Continuing education can be classified as any class, lecture, or training regarding mental health issues. CIT Officers may also attend an annual recertification class or participate in any CIT Academy to receive continuing education hours.
Certified Officers receive a standardized insignia of their new skills known as the CIT Pin. Regardless of the officer's jurisdiction, the pin remains the same so to be recognizable by consumers and family members throughout the State.
